'Into the Wild'

The best thing about Ottawa Bluesfest is the opportunity to stage-hop and find music you've never heard before. This is how I found Xavier Rudd, M.Ward, Dana Fuchs and other awesome musicians in past years. Yesterday, before the Tragically Hip performed on the main stage, we stumbled upon LP. It was immediately catchy and I was thoroughly enjoying the show with Dean when our friend Dave, who works behind the scenes in the sound department, found us and brought us to a prime spot in the crowd where the music became huge. Just by moving about 50 feet from our previous spot, the energy was cranked. After listening for a while, Dave decided he wanted to show Dean (recording engineer and sound geek) the mega gear under the stage. So while LP's drummer was pounding the bass drum and someone else stomped the floor, I stood underneath among giant cables and blinky lights while the guys lusted over components in a language I'll never speak.

After emerging from the darkness, we had the opportunity to stand backstage and watch a bit more of the show. It was pretty awesome. Check out my Twitter feed for a few more photos and videos.
