J-school throwback

I found a news article this morning that reported hundreds of millions of dollars, which had been set aside by the government for foreign aid, was not spent last fiscal year. That raises some concern about Canada's rumoured change of heart about helping those in need. The article did mention that the numbers may not include some last-minute spending but that's still a big number that could be used toward something good.
This reminded me of a story I covered in my college reporting days. Every year the public relations students at Algonquin College have a week-long fundraising campaign for a chosen organization. The money they raise is certainly a stretch from the millions reserved by the government, but it's great practice for a legitimate cause.
The year I covered the campaign, already five years ago, the students raised cash for Ryan's Well.
I just did a quick search for this year's campaign and found out that they celebrated 25 years of charitable fundraising through the PR program - another reason why Algonquin College is a darn good school.
Here is my article.
