Wineward Cycling

We just returned from a trip to Prince Edward County for some bike riding and wine tasting along the region's taste trail. It was super hot but a perfect way to spend a day during the Civic Holiday weekend.

We parked in the tiny town of Wellington and began our journey by biking west along Lake Ontario, then veered north where a row of wineries have been established since the early 2000s, and looped back down to the east side of Wellington. We visited seven wineries, had a total of 40 wine samples, and also tried a taste of lavender cotton candy which, by the way, has a much nicer flavour than traditional cotton candy. Some wineries offered pairings with their samples, like cheese, sausage, olives, wasabi peas and almonds, and some were terribly generous with their vino samples -- it was a yummy and delightful day.

Along the way, we visited Broken Stone, Closson Chase, The Grange of Prince Edward Estates, Karlo Estates, Keint-he, Lacey Estates and Lift Haus Winery. Needless to say, I needed a bit of a rest when we finally reached the beach in Wellington.
